This is because the cavitation plate should be just skimming on the surface when planing, but the water starts to rise once it flows out from behind the hull towards the pod mounted engine (did I explain that properly?). From memory the norm is to lift the engine cavitation plate approx 25mm above the bottom of the V for every 300mm of distance. There is no such thing as an anti-cavitation plate, only an anti-ventilation plate. Cavitation is when you boil water on the prop and ventilation is when you suck air from the surface through.

8. Reaction score. 4. We have a new to us 2013 model 2375GCW with Express Package and strakes on both sides of all three toons. Power is a Mercury 150 4S. Only been out in it a few times so far, but noticed that it tends to very easily cavitate/ventilate when turning at moderate speed on plane (22-26 mph) and trimmed out to level.
Should cavitation plate be underwater? Basically, the cavitation plate must always be in the water when the boat is running. It should be located right at that water level. The rule of thumb should be one inch above the boat's hull for every 12 inches back.
